Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has insisted his side can’t hide their issues with world class players because they simply don’t have enough of them.
The Gunners face Manchester United this weekend and it could be said that United have been able to hide their problems at times this season thanks to moments of brilliance, mainly from Cristiano Ronaldo.
Arteta’s side have struggled at times this season but bounced back from a three game losing streak when they stunned Chelsea on Wednesday night, beating the Blues 4-2.
Speaking ahead of their clash with United, Arteta said that whilst they may not have the world class talent just yet, they do have a group that is pulling together.
“We don’t have at the moment five world class players who will hide the issues of the club. What do have is people who are so connected in the same direction.”
Arteta also revealed that he hoped to have Alexandre Lacazette and Takehiro Tomiyasu back available for the game at the Emirates.
On Lacazette: “He trained yesterday and hopefully he will be feeling today. After COVID we have players that have struggled for weeks others that have recovered quickly. Hopefully he can recover quickly.
On Tomiyasu: “If he trains today and he feels good he will be available tomorrow.”
Their opponents on Saturday will have a new manager in place for next season after announcing that Ajax boss Erik Ten Hag will take the reigns next season.
However, Arteta had very little to say on the news.
“I don’t know what will happen for them but for us nothing changes.”
The Spaniard was also reluctant to comment on Ronaldo, who will return against Arsenal, after missing their defeat to Liverpool due to the death of his newborn son.
“I don’t think I’m allowed to talk about something like that, because unless you experience it you cannot be on the same level or express the pain you should feel about it. Yesterday was a great example to be proud of when clubs show such a thing.”
