Tottenham Hotspur’s Sergio Reguilon is one of many left-backs being eyed up by Barcelona, according to reports.

He joined Tottenham from Barcelona’s arch-rivals Real Madrid in the summer of 2020 for around £25million.

Los Blancos have the option to re-sign the 25-year-old in the summer for £33.5m but it appears that Barcelona is a potential destination.

According to Mundo Deportivo (via Sport Witness), the Catalan club are particularly interested in signing Celta Vigo’s Javi Galan as they chase a new left-back.

Galan is a ‘strong contender’ to provide competition to, or potentially succeed, veteran left-back Jordi Alba.

He is a ‘low cost’ option and a favourite of Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez, but there are several options on their list.

One of them is Spurs defender Reguilon, who is ‘not being ruled out’ by the Blaugrana hierarchy.

Meanwhile, ex-Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson believes Spurs are now “favourites” to finish in the top four even with them being a “one-man team”.

Over the weekend, Tottenham hammered Newcastle United 5-1. This result moved them into the top four ahead of Arsenal’s game against Crystal Palace on Monday.

The Gunners had only lost one of their last seven league games heading into their trip to Selhurst Park. They were comprehensively beaten by Patrick Vieira’s side, though.

Merson thinks the manner of Arsenal’s loss against Crystal Palace was “worrying”.

“When you have a young team like Arsenal, you’ve got to just take the rough with the smooth – and the Crystal Palace defeat was very, very rough,” Merson told Sky Sports.

“There are ways of getting beat and Monday night at Palace wasn’t a good way of getting beat. It was worrying. I expected one of those performances from Tottenham before the end of the season, I didn’t expect it from Arsenal. They could lose a game, but not like that.

“Palace is a hard place to go on a Monday night, don’t underestimate it – and if Arsenal had beaten Palace, I thought top four was done and dusted. It would have been three points clear and a game in hand, it was massive.

“Now all of a sudden, Arsenal don’t really have a game in hand – because Tottenham have got them at home anyway. It doesn’t matter what they do with their game in hand, because Tottenham will have to beat them and can overtake them.”
