Barcelona ‘remain interested’ in Man City forward after failed bid

by: Hklivescores

According to reports, Barcelona are still interested in Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling after failing to sign him in January.

Last October, Sterling admitted that he was “open” to leaving City in search of regular playing time.

Gary Neville completes the trifecta of fearful nonsense

“If there was the option to go somewhere else for more game time I would be open to it. As I said football is the most important thing to me,” he said.

His comments sparked rumours about his future, with Barcelona emerging as a potential landing spot for the England international.

Sterling’s form and game time has improved in recent months, however. He has scored 14 goals in 35 appearances in all competitions in 2021/22.

In January, 90min reported that Barcelona made an approach for Sterling, who has less than 18 months left on his Man City contract.

And the same source now claim that the La Liga club are still keen on signing the 27-year-old.

However, staying at the Etihad ‘is very much in his thinking’.

Elsewhere, England captain Harry Kane refused to be drawn into speculation about his Tottenham future, insisting he is focused on World Cup preparations and breaking Wayne Rooney’s all-time scoring record.

Kane was heavily linked with a move to Man City last summer, however, a deal failed to materialise.

He has scored 32 goals in 47 matches for club and country this season, including seven in his last seven Premier League matches, and is sure to attract more admiring glances this summer.

Asked about the potential of his long-term future proving a distraction as the World Cup comes into focus, he said: “Obviously my main focus is just finishing this season, first and foremost.

“We’re still in a competition for the top four and that’s where my focus lies. I can’t control what will happen in the future.

“It is a big year for everyone. Not just me.

“I want to be going into that tournament in the best form possible so it’s just about controlling what I can control and that’s doing what I have been doing the last few months.

“It’s important over the summer to stay focused and I look forward to a fantastic tournament.”
