Champo predictions: Cardiff bragging rights, Barnsley score draw

After the international break, Championship football is back and there are some huge games coming up this weekend. Benjamin Bloom is back to preview all the action, with odds from Betfair throughout.

Barnsley v Reading
Forgive me for breaking the habit of a lifetime but I’m putting this relegation head to head first in the running order. After Reading won and Barnsley lost in the round before the international break this turned very much into a must-win for Barnsley and a must-not-lose for Reading. I think Reading will get what they need.

Benjamin Bloom’s prediction: Barnsley 1-1 Reading (5/1 Betfair)

QPR v Fulham
Back to normal and up to the top of the table. I suspect back to normal as well for Fulham as they visit QPR. The Cottagers have had a long break since losing at West Brom with QPR’s recent poor form maybe making them a good opponent. Rangers are in danger of letting this run undo all their good work and I’d be surprised if they bounced back here against the champions elect.

Benjamin Bloom’s prediction: QPR 1-2 Fulham (13/2 Betfair)

Bournemouth v Bristol City
Before Bournemouth’s tricky run-in really gets going, there’s the small matter of a winnable home game against Bristol City. If Bournemouth do beat the erratic Robins they probably only need another three wins to get the job done. A slip here could look very costly down the line so I make this a big opportunity for the Cherries.

Benjamin Bloom’s prediction: Bournemouth 3-1 Bristol City (10/1 Betfair)

Luton v Millwall
Always a fun time when Millwall visit Luton with memories going back to an infamous clash in the 1980s. Luton are riding high in third and favourites to win this one despite some injury problems at centre-back recently. Gary Rowett has been good at setting Millwall up and getting a draw and given the run of games they have coming up they’ll be happy to get out with a point I think.

Benjamin Bloom’s prediction: Luton 1-1 Millwall (5/1 Betfair)

Championship stat pack: The top six run-in analysed

Hull v Huddersfield
Huddersfield will be hoping the little slip before the international break won’t turn into anything bigger. The Terriers have gone from a brilliant undefeated streak to one point in the last three with plenty of play-off suitors breathing down their necks. It’s a Friday night trip to Hull and I’ve got Huddersfield down to lay a marker.

Benjamin Bloom’s prediction: Hull 0-2 Huddersfield (11/1 Betfair)

Stoke v Sheffield United
Stoke’s form has been bad for about 20 games now, pretty much the same length of time Sheffield United’s has been good for. These two teams have almost swapped over with the Blades now in the play-off spots and Stoke languishing in the bottom half. Sheffield United have injuries but also momentum and confidence, which Stoke don’t.

Benjamin Bloom’s prediction: Stoke 0-1 Sheffield United (7/1 Betfair)

Coventry v Blackburn
Two very important questions. Will Ben Brereton-Diaz be fit to start having hightailed it back from playing for Chile? Probably not. Will Blackburn be able to overcome their recent goal drought if he doesn’t start? Probably not.

Benjamin Bloom’s prediction: Coventry 2-0 Blackburn (8/1 Betfair)

Peterborough v Middlesbrough
It was a great win for Peterborough at QPR last time out, but unfortunately for Posh Middlesbrough also broke their away duck at Birmingham. It looks like Grant McCann is getting something out of Peterborough that Darren Ferguson wasn’t. However, I think Boro will be too strong this weekend.

Benjamin Bloom’s prediction: Peterborough 0-1 Middlesbrough (13/2 Betfair)

Champo Big Weekend: Oakwell clash, Bournemouth finish line

Blackpool v Nottingham Forest
Forest are a fascinating play-off race case. Were they to maintain their form post-Chris Hughton giving everyone else a seven-game headstart, they should be able find their way into the top six despite currently being back in ninth. Blackpool have picked back up since their injuries cleared up and will present a stern test for Forest. I’ll back them to get through this first hurdle on the Championship home straight.

Benjamin Bloom’s prediction: Blackpool 1-2 Nottingham Forest (8/1 Betfair)

Birmingham v West Brom
Are we on the beach for this one or will the local derby rivalry aspect not allow for such frivolity? Birmingham still seem in somewhat of a muddle strategy wise and something is telling me there will be a little surge for Steve Bruce from the underperforming Baggies squad. I want to boost the odds for my total predictions so let’s go for a convincing away win.

Benjamin Bloom’s prediction: Birmingham 0-3 West Brom (16/1 Betfair)

Derby v Preston
I was about to talk about a Derby win being needed to keep things interesting. There’s never a dull moment at Derby and we’re still up in the air regarding a new buyer but in survival terms we’re entering the last-chance saloon. Preston may be approaching the fabled beach and Derby’s home record has been good all season so I’ll back them to keep things interesting.

Benjamin Bloom’s prediction: Derby 1-0 Preston (6/1 Betfair)

Cardiff v Swansea
The big South Wales derby is upon us with Swansea having the opportunity to be the first ever side to do a derby double and follow up their win earlier this season. The problem for the Swans is the good form Cardiff are in and their home advantage. I think perhaps the streak continues and the Bluebirds take this one. Let’s go for a big end-of-season beachball scoreline too.

Benjamin Bloom’s prediction: Cardiff 3-2 Swansea (28/1 Betfair)
