Pep Guardiola believes Liverpool will win the Premier League title if Manchester City do not win all of their remaining games.

Man City hosted Graham Potter’s Brighton at the Etihad on Wednesday night.

Guardiola’s side went into this game needing a win to move back to the top of the Premier League. Liverpool leapfrogged them on Tuesday as they hammered Man Utd 4-0.

Haaland to City could be sporting and sportswashing triumph

The Seagulls were able to frustrate City throughout the opening half. The title-chasers had to rely on deflected goals from Riyad Mahrez and Phil Foden to go ahead.

Bernardo Silva later added a third as Man City ran out 3-0 winners. They are now a point clear of Liverpool.

City are back in action on Saturday as they face Roy Hodgson’s Watford. Liverpool meanwhile welcome Everton to Anfield on Sunday.

Speaking after beating Brighton, Guardiola suggested that City have some “really tough” games coming up:

“We have just one month to finish the Premier League and we know what we have to do. If we drop two points Liverpool will be champions,” Guardiola said (quotes via BBC Sport).

“We have really tough fixtures ahead of us.

“When Kevin de Bruyne is fit and mentally ready, he is an incredible special player and that was a great performance.

“The last five years have been outstanding what we have done. The players give everything.”

Elsewhere, it is being reported that Man City are closing in on a deal to sign Erling Haaland.

The striker’s £63m release clause becomes active this summer. He has grabbed 18 goals and seven assists from his 20 Bundesliga outings this season.

Earlier this week, Guardiola refused to speak on the speculation:

“No answer to your question. I have another concern in my head to think what will happen in this club next season.”

When asked whether they need a new striker in the summer, the City boss added: “We are playing without a striker. For many years I dont think about transfer windows especially when we have incredible things to play for.”
