‘He can guarantee goals’ – Fowler picks out ‘left-field’ signing for Liverpool

Robbie Fowler thinks Liverpool “could do worse” than sign Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane as he “can guarantee goals” for his team.

Kane was keen to leave Spurs last summer as he wanted to maximise his chances of winning team trophies. Man City were interested in him but a deal could not be agreed upon.

The Englishman is in sensational form for Tottenham. He has grabbed seven goals and four assists from his last eight Premier League games.

The forward has been linked with a move to Man Utd in recent weeks.

Kane still has two years running on his contract at Tottenham which is due to expire in 2024. Fowler believes he would be a good fit for Liverpool:

“United will be in, for sure, and this is a bit left-field, but I’ve said before that Liverpool could do worse than go for him, because he’s got that ability to drop deep like Firmino, and he can guarantee goals,” Fowler wrote for The Mirror.

“So he has a question to ask: Are Spurs closer now to winning trophies? I think objectively, and without appearing to put them down, most people would say they’re further away than before.

“He’s close to writing his name in England legend, he has a proper chance of winning the World Cup, but if he stays at a club in transition, he’s no closer to getting any more trophies.

“I think that means he’ll be thinking he has to go… which is not a spectacular insight from me, because he thought that last summer, and here we are again in the same situation.

“He’ll be 29 in July. While I’m not saying it’s his last chance given that players now can go on for much longer at the top level. It’s his optimum chance.

“I know he’ll have that ambition to win things. City would virtually have guaranteed it, but if that’s not going to happen. Then I’m sure he’ll have the inner belief that tells he can be the catalyst for the likes of United.”
