‘I’m going to get in trouble!’ – Terry speaks on Chelsea-linked Rice

John Terry has suggested that Declan Rice’s achievements at West Ham United are “incredible” amid reports linking him with Chelsea.

The midfielder was an academy player at Chelsea but he was released before he could make his senior debut. He was quickly picked up by West Ham and their faith in him has been repaid.

Rice has been sensational for the Hammers in recent years as he has also established himself as a regular for England.

Forgotten stars who came from nowhere after January rumours

The 23-year-old has been linked with a move to the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United of late.

Hammers boss David Moyes claimed last week that Rice will only be sold this summer for a fee ‘north of £150m’:

“The first thing to say is that he is not for sale,” said Moyes.

“But if you are interested, well, it will be north of that, because £100million was cheap last summer, and £150million just now would be minimum – but he is not for sale.

Terry has claimed that Rice “loves Chelsea” and that them releasing him “helped his career”:

“I’m going to get in trouble here for what I say!”  Terry said (quotes via talkSPORT).

“You know what, Dec obviously loves Chelsea – I think everyone knows that.

“I think the rejection he had from Chelsea has really helped his career actually. What he’s done at West Ham is pretty much incredible.

“We saw in the FA Cup [against Kidderminster Harriers in February] when he came on and scored, and again grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck.”

Terry went onto discuss what West Ham must do if they want to tempt Rice to stay beyond this summer:

“I think from Dec’s side of things, I think he’s given everything to West Ham,” he added.

“And for me, looking from the outside, unless West Ham go and make a big statement in the summer and go and spend £100million plus and say, ‘We want to keep Dec and we want to bring in top players like you’, then I think he’s got a decision to make.

“I think if West Ham go and spend huge amounts of money, bring in top players. Then I think it’s difficult for him to walk away.”
