Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has admitted he would miss Merseyside rivals Everton if they were relegated this season.

The rivals face off on Sunday afternoon in what is a huge clash at both ends of the table.

Big Weekend: Arsenal v Man Utd, Merseyside derby, Eriksen

Liverpool need to keep up their winning form to maintain the pressure on Manchester City at the top of the Premier League.

Frank Lampard’s Everton, on the other hand, are in serous danger of relegation, especially after Burnley’s 2-0 win over Southampton on Thursday evening.

The Toffees currently sit one point above the drop, and could find themselves in the bottom three by the time they head to Anfield on Sunday.

However, Liverpool boss Klopp has admitted he would miss Everton should they go down.

“Of course. We are used to two clubs in the city. We played United in midweek but usually the full week before playing Everton, all the talks are about the derby.”

“This derby has never lacked intensity. It’s about not going over the top like in the good old times, let me say it like this. We play games after the derby as well let’s not forget. It was always very intense and this one is important for both clubs.”

However, despite the potential effects the game could have on the table, Klopp was keen to play down the added importance.

“I can’t remember a derby where it wasn’t important for us. I don’t know where we’d be without the points (against Everton), or the ones we didn’t get last season when we lost.”

The German also spoke about Liverpool’s improvement from last season, admitting he didn’t see them being as successful as they have been so far.

“I didn’t expect us to win the Carabao Cup, be in an FA Cup final, Champions League semi and one point off the lead in the table.

“I knew we’d be better. To qualify for the Champions League last season was massive and there were moments I thought OK hopefully we don’t have to play the [Europa] Conference [League].”

On the busy schedule, Klopp added: “It’s incredibly tough. We play pretty much all the time. It’s true we love the situation. You cannot plan it, you are in everything.

“We won one competition [so far]. Great, but there are still three others to go. The boys are in a good moment. So far it is good and we are looking forward to everything.”
