Liverpool defender Kostas Tsimikas is delighted with the Reds progression to the semi-finals of the Champions League.

Jurgen Klopp’s side drew 3-3 with Benfica at Anfield on Wednesday evening, giving them a 6-4 aggregate win to set up a semi-final clash with Unai Emery’s Villarreal.

Tsimikas, who has found game time hard to come by in recent weeks, put in a man of the match display against the Portuguese side, laying on assists for Ibrahima Konate’s opener and Roberto Firmino’s second goal of the evening.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com after the win, the Greek defender revealed his delight that his hard work has paid off.

“Yeah, of course – we wanted to win. At the end, we didn’t win, we drew, but we’re happy. We got through and we have to continue to work hard if we want to achieve our goals,” said Tsimikas.

“I’m very, very happy. I’m very happy for the two assists. My hard work pays off. This gives me extra motivation to keep working hard and do exactly that, play for this team. I always enjoy when I play for this family. I’m very happy.”

First choice left-back Andy Robertson is likely to coma back in the the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City at Wembley on Saturday and play the vast majority of minutes remaining this season but Tsimikas will be ready if called upon.

“It’s always a pleasure when I play for this family. I always try to give my best when they give me the chance. I’m always there for this team, to fight for every place, to do what we can do. I’m very, very happy for that.

“All the times they give me the chance, I will be there and I will show exactly that.”

Liverpool have already won the Carabao Cup this season and could add the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup in the coming weeks but the Reds defender admitted one of them is his ‘biggest dream’.

“Of course, it’s my biggest dream to win the Champions League. It was one of my goals when I came here. I want it really so much.

“I will work hard with the boys to really achieve this. We deserve it with all the work we do every day. We’ll go for it.”
