Man Utd and Paris Saint-Germain are set to ‘battle’ it out to sign Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, according to reports.
The Red Devils have been consistently linked with the midfielder in recent years.
The Serbian has been with Lazio since 2015. He has played just short of 300 times for the Italian outfit across all competitions.
The 27-year-old helped Lazio win the Coppa Italia in 2018/19 and he has been one of their standout players over the past few years.
Milinkovic-Savic has been in great form this term. He has been involved in 17 goals from his 29 Serie A outings.
Italian journalist Nicolo Ceccarini (via Sport Witness) says that the Serbia international’s next move ‘seems to be abroad’.
There is a large belief in Rome that he will leave in the upcoming summer transfer window.
With Paul Pogba out of contract at the end of the season, Milinkovic-Savic could replace the Frenchman and has previously been seen as Pogba’s ‘heir’ at Old Trafford.
La Repubblica claim that Man Utd will fight it out with PSG to sign him, with Ceccarini adding that he will be the ‘man in the market’ this summer.
Juventus are also interested but as aforementioned, the player’s next team looks likely to be one outside of Italy.
Meanwhile, former Man City boss Roberto Mancini has been tipped for the Man Utd job by Darren Bent.
Mauricio Pochettino and Erik ten Hag have emerged as the frontrunners for the job but Luis Enrique and Julen Lopetegui are also understood to be in the minds of the Man Utd hierarchy.
Reports claimed earlier this week that Pochettino’s camp believed the job was now ‘Ten Hag’s to lose’ after the Dutchman interviewed for the job.
“He has proved he can do it in this country and I think it is vital that he has that Premier League experience,” Bent said on talkSPORT.
“He has gone on to win a massive trophy with Italy in the Euros, so you can’t question his pedigree in terms of winning things.
“If you’re looking for a winner, I suppose the counter argument is that people will say Jose [Mourinho] was a winner and it ended quite badly. He did win trophies for United, but people would say he left the club in a worst state.”
