Newcastle ‘ready to compete’ with Liverpool for in-form PL attacker

According to reports, Newcastle United are ‘ready to compete’ with Liverpool for West Ham United attacker Jarrod Bowen this summer.

The Englishman is a standout player for West Ham. He is currently enjoying his best season to date on a personal level for the Hammers.

Five clubs, like Everton, who looked too good to go down

The 25-year-old has grabbed nine goals and eight assists from his 29 Premier League appearances so far in 2021/22.

Jurgen Klopp is reportedly an admirer of Bowen. Last month it was suggested that Liverpool are ‘seriously interested’ in the West Ham star.

90min are reporting that Newcastle are also ‘interested’ in Bowen. The Magpies ‘are ready to compete with any side in the running for his signature’ this summer.

It is also suggested that Eddie Howe was a ‘huge fan’ of Bowen when he was the manager of AFC Bournemouth.

Newcastle beat Wolves 1-0 at St James’ Park on Friday night. Howe said post-match that Chris Wood’s winner “will do wonders” for him:

“Massive tonight. It was the kind of game we expected it to be. Wolves make it difficult for you. We had our moments. It took a penalty to win the game but the players gave everything again.

“I am so pleased for Chris Wood. You could see him filling in on the left of midfield. He is a willing lad. The goal will do wonders for him. I am pleased he stepped up and took it.

“Bruno Guimaeres is going to be a mainstay of the team. The difficulty is that we went on that winning run and it was difficult to break the midfield up. He got his opportunity today and I thought he was excellent. He offered a different dimension. I am excited by what he can bring to the team.

“We still have work to do but that was a massive step forward tonight. It brings us closer to safety. I hope there will be a different Newcastle in the future but we have to play a certain way to get results at the moment.”

He added: “Playing here is such a unique experience. The crowd really helped us today. We have to harness it. The relationship between us and the supporters is everything.

“It is a city built on football. We have to repay that support and passion with hard work and dedication. We will endeavour to do that every day we are here.

“It will be great to be looking up and playing with a different pressure. It was a massive step forward tonight but there is still work to do.”
