Newcastle are reportedly looking to take advantage of a potential Watford exodus should the Hornets be relegated from the Premier League, eyeing a move for Liverpool-linked forward Ismaila Sarr.
Watford are currently 18th in the Premier League, three points behind Everton having played two more games, and still have to travel to Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City in their final nine fixtures. Their hopes of survival are bleak.
And that could lead to the exit of their star players, including Sarr.
The 24-year-old joned Watford in a club-record deal in 2019 and surprised many by remaining with the club through a relegation and promotion back to the Premier League.
He earned admiring glances from Liverpool in his first stint in the English top flight and the Reds are thought still to have an interest in the Senegal international.
But according to The Sun, Newcastle are also eyeing a deal for Sarr as they look to splash the cash of their Saudi-backed owners.
The report states that Sarr is ‘certain’ to leave Watford this summer, though it’s claimed he won’t be prised away for less than the £30m the Hornets paid for him three years.
Another attacking star at Vicarage Road, Emmanuel Dennis, who’s taken the Premier League by storm following his move from Club Brugge in the summer, is expected to leave for Villarreal in a £25m deal having notched an impressive nine goals and five assists in the league this season.
A wide array of players have been linked with Newcastle this summer as Eddie Howe looks to continue to improve his squad having safely taken them away from the relegation zone this season.
The Magpies spent £90m in January and it’s expected at least the same outlay will be made this summer.
And former Premier League striker Darren Bent has urged them to chase Real Madrid and Wales star Gareth Bale.
“He is incredible, Gareth Bale, we have seen it time and time again.”
On Newcastle potentially signing him, Bent added: “That’s a superstar signing they are looking for. I think they (Newcastle fans) would be happy with it.”
