‘Not fighting’ – Fernandes delivers damning assessment after Liverpool loss

Bruno Fernandes believes the Man Utd players must ‘look at themselves from top to bottom’ following another abject performance against Liverpool.

The Red Devils were comfortably beaten by Jurgen Klopp’s side, who are now top of the Premier League.

16 Conclusions: Liverpool 4-0 Manchester United (9-0 agg)

Mohamed Salah rediscovered his scoring touch, netting a brace, whilst providing an assist for new boy Luiz Diaz. Sadio Mane was also on target.

It was yet another disappointing display by Man Utd under Ralf Rangnick. Defeat leaves them in sixth, level on points with Arsenal who have two games in hand.

They are facing yet another trophyless season and despite appearing to be in the battle for fourth place, Fernandes insists his side “are not fighting for anything at the moment”.

“Liverpool is fighting for the title, that’s the difference,” Fernandes told Sky Sports (via Manchester Evening News).

“We are not fighting for anything at the moment. You can see the difference by the points.

“I don’t need to be here saying about the difference of the level. We have to look at ourselves, from top to bottom and understand what is going wrong.”

One man that will be looking at the club from top to bottom is Ajax boss Erik ten Hag, who is set to become the new manager at Old Trafford.

Gary Neville was very critical of his former club, hinting that the players have given up and will “hide” behind Ten Hag next season.

He said during Sky Sports’ coverage of the clash at Anfield: “These Man United players want the season over so they can hide behind the new manager and blame the old. An excuses culture permeating the whole club.

“They’re in shape but they’re walking. The lot of them. Which one of them looks alert or like they’re going to press. At best it’s an amble. Most of them are jokes.”
