Rangnick may ‘turn his back on’ Man Utd as he ‘negotiates’ another job

According to reports, Ralf Rangnick may ‘turn his back on’ Manchester United this summer as he has met with a national team’s director.

The German has been United’s interim manager since the start of December. A plan was put in place for him to take up a consultancy role this summer.

Rangnick and United’s players have reportedly been at odds over his potential successor.

On the pitch, Man Utd’s performances have not improved too much following Rangnick’s appointment. They currently sit seventh in the Premier League and they have exited every cup competition.

Kurier (via Sport Witness) are reporting that Austria’s sporting director (Peter Schöttel) has ‘negotiated’ with Rangnick.

Austria are on the lookout for a new manager. Franco Foda stepped down earlier this month as they were beaten by Wales in the World Cup play offs.

The report suggests that Schöttel has flown to Manchester to speak with Rangnick.

Kurier add that contact has been ‘established’ between Rangnick and Austria’s representatives:

“The suspicion of not being able to get his style across to stars who think differently could persuade the German to turn his back on the island in the summer.

“Another companion of Rangnick is Christoph Freund. Salzburg’s sports director sits on the ÖFB sports commission, advises Schöttel in the search for a manager and has also established contact with Rangnick.

“Is it a coincidence that the ÖFB has convened a meeting at short notice for next Friday? Not at all.”

Elsewhere, Simon Jordan has encouraged Man Utd to ignore Gary Neville and their players as they look to appoint a new permanent manager.

“Good advice is something you can never have too much of. But sometimes, you have to make a decision based off what you know to be the case, rather than other people parroting in your ear about half the facts they know,” Jordan told talkSPORT.

“Gary Neville doesn’t know all the facts. Gary Neville didn’t get a memo sent to him saying ‘you know everything, listen to me’. There’s a backdrop to understanding Manchester United 20 years ago and there’s a backdrop to understanding the antidote to Manchester United’s problems now.”

Jordan went onto suggest that the “nincompoop” players are “half the problem” at United:

“I think a decision has to be made. I couldn’t care less what the nincompoops inside the dressing room think. They are half the problem, so I certainly wouldn’t be canvassing their opinions.”
