Rangnick: We’ll see a ‘different, improved’ Man Utd team under Ten Hag

Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick is confident Erik Ten Hag will be able to improve the club’s fortunes next season.

Ajax manager Ten Hag will take over from Rangnick in the summer, joining on an initial three year deal with an option of a further year.

Of course these Man Utd players. They just don’t believe…

United have suffered a poor season so far that will seen them finish it trophy less and more than likely without Champions League football next season.

Ten Hag has been brought in to oversee the big rebuild that is needed at Old Trafford and Rangnick is confident he will be able to do so.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of United’s clash with Arsenal, the German said: “We don’t know each other in person.

“From what I’ve seen of him with Bayern Munich and Ajax now, I like his football and I’m pretty positive with a full pre-season and having the chance to build and mould his own staff with a new team, I’m pretty sure we’ll see a different team and improvement on the pitch.”

United have been linked with several players since the confirmation of Ten Hag’s appointment was announced on Thursday morning and Rangnick was asked about recruitment for next season.

However, United’s interim boss, who is set for a consultancy role next season, Rangnick claimed he wasn’t the right person to ask.

“I don’t know. This is a question for the board. My focus is on the last remaining games. It’s better you speak to the board.”

Ahead of the clash with Arsenal, who come into the game on the back of a 4-2 at Chelsea, Rangnick admitted they are a side he likes watching.

“I think they drew the right conclusions from what they experienced earlier on in the season. They brought in some young players, [Martin] Odegaard for example, they got rid of some players who didn’t fit that style of football.

“It’s a high attacking team with fast strikers, pretty aggressive in the first third, always trying to press and counter-press.

“I like watching them actually, but hopefully not against us tomorrow, so it’s up to us to be aware and prepared of what they’re doing up front, but at the same time, taking advantage of the space that we will hopefully get in their half.”
