Vieira: ‘Ambitious’ Crystal Palace ‘will be ready’ for FA Cup semi-final clash

Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira has insisted his ambitions Crystal Palace will be ready for their FA Cup semi-final with Chelsea.

The Eagles have enjoyed a good season so far but could make it an exceptional one should they beat Thomas Tuchel’s side on Sunday and set up a final with Liverpool or Manchester City, who face off on Saturday.

Big Weekend: Man City v Liverpool, Arteta, Son, Palace

Chelsea come into the game on the back of being dumped out of the Champions League at Real Madrid in the week despite a strong performance.

Speaking to the media ahead of the game, Vieira praised their performance in the Bernabeu but admitted they are ready to win the game at Wembley.

“They played well. It was a big game and they performed well. They were unlucky not to go to the semi-finals,” said the French boss.

“We know what to expect from Chelsea. We know the team and their individual talent. We have to give our best performance. We lost 1-0 but we gave them a hard game in the league and we want the same approach. To play as best as we can and try and win the game. We’re ambitious.”

Palace will be without Conor Gallagher for the clash as he is unavailable to play against his parent side.

Thomas Tuchel admitted he understood Palace’s and Gallagher’s frustrations and Vieira has responded, accepting that the rules have to be followed.

“These are the rules. Of course, he knows that Conor has been doing really well for us. But these are the rules and we have to play by them. We will have another player playing and having different options. I am not worried about players coming in.

“He was disappointed no doubt about it but he understood the rules and he’s in a good place.

With Gallagher absent, Vieira will be hoping he is able to call upon Tyrick Mitchell and Michael Olise, but admitted they will only play if they are 100%.

“Tyrick [Mitchell] and Michael [Olise] have had some individual training and a little more today. We have to wait until tomorrow but they”ll only get involved if they’re 100% fit.”

Vieira is a five time FA Cup winner for his playing days with Arsenal, but Vieira was keen to play that down ahead of Sunday’s clash.

“It’s been the fact that I’ve been in places where clubs are successful in the FA Cup. I was just part of it. This is a different club, team and ambition and it is a really good moment for the club.

“The message to the players and fans is to enjoy the day. We had a really good week of preparation and we will be ready.”
